Free Crochet Pattern – PETUNIA FINGERLESS GLOVES

Crochet some cute fingerless gloves, or texting gloves to wear over your hands, or to dress up, and warm up, some very inexpensive stretch gloves (I bought mine at the dollar store)

You can make these any size, because they begin with a foundation chain that will wrap around the palm of your hand, so all the guesswork is taken out of it!

MATERIALS:

Any size yarn, (Red Heart Unforgetable yarn used in this design.)

Any size appropriate crochet hook, (5 mm used in this design)

Yarn needle

Optional: buttons for flower centers

INSTRUCTIONS:

 

  1. Works bottom up.  Chain as many stitches as need to wrap around the palm of your hand.

Examples: 2 – 5 yrs: 5 inches, 5-8 yrs: 6 inches; 8 – 12 yrs: 7 1/2 inches; adult 8 inches

Slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.

  1. Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain, slip stitch to join.
  2. Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
  3. Repeat step 3 until the work is long enough to cover as much of the hand as desired:

Examples: 2-5 yrs: 1.5 inch; 5-12 yrs: 1.75 inch, Adult: 2 inches

  1. Thumb opening row:  Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in the next stitch.

2-8 yrs: chain 3; 8 – 12 yrs: chain 4; adult: chain 5.

Skip the same number of stitches, double crochet in the next stitch, and each stitch of the row,

Slip stitch to join in the top of the 1st double crochet.

  1. Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, including the chain stitches for the thumb

opening. Slip stitch to join.

  1. Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
  2. Repeat step 7 until the top part is as long as desired.
  3. Shell stitch row:  Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in the same stitch, *skip the next 2 stitches, 5 double

crochet in the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from *

around, slip stitch to join.  Fasten off, weave yarn ends into the finished work. (Approaching the end

of the row, adjust the number of skipped stitches in order to end with a slip stitch into the first single

crochet.)

  1. FLOWER:Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

Carry the yarn end along the outside of the ring, chain 2, make 12 double crochet in the ring, slip stitch to

join in the top of the first double crochet, fasten off.  Pull the yarn end to close the hole in the center, sew

onto the gloves with a button in the center.

 

CORD:  Chain approx. 100 stitches, fasten off, wrap around the wrist, tie the ends into a bow.  If

desired, the cord can be passed randomly through the stitches.
