Messy Bun Hat – Free Crochet Pattern

Here is a free Crochet Pattern for a Messy Bun Hat, or Pony Tail Hat.  Finally the solution to having your hair look fabulous even when you’re wearing a hat!

Just in time for Christmas This hat has a durable opening, reinforced with single crochet stitches all around!  Just in time for gift giving!

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver used in this design)

6 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

 INSTRUCTIONS:  

  1. Chain 18, slip stitch to join, being careful not to twist the chain.
  2. Chain 1, make 18 single crochet in the ring, slip stitch to join in the top of the 1st single crochet.
  3. Chain 1 and turn, working in the back side of the stitch only, single crochet in each stitch around,

slip stitch to join. (18)

  1. Chain 1 and turn, still working in the back side of the stitch only, make 2 single crochet in each

stitch around, slip stitch to join. (36 stitches)

  1. Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (36)
  2. Chain 1 and turn, *single crochet in the next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next stitch, repeat

from * around, slip stitch to join. (48 stitches)

  1.  Repeat step 6 (64 stitches)
  2.  For the next 10 rows of the hat:

Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (64)

  1. *Chain 2 and turn, working in both loops of the stitch, double crochet in each stitch around, slip

stitch to join.  Repeat from * for one more row, fasten off.

Chain a cord of 30 inches, pass through a row of stitch along the bottom of the hat.
