Crochet Icicle Ornament – Free Crochet Pattern

Watch these icicles grow before your very eyes.  They create the spiral as you work the pattern.  Just choose your length and start to crochet!  You can use any yarn and hook, but Emi used a 5mm crochet hook and worsted weight yarn for these.

CROCHET ICICLE PATTERN:

1. Chain 24 or any number of stitches you would like.
2. Slip stitch in the first 3 stitches from the hook.
3. Make 4 single crochet in the next stitch, and in each stitch of the chain.
4. At the end of the chain, fasten off. Weave the yarn ends into the finished work.
5. Tie a ribbon at the top of the icicle for hanging. Or make a chain for hanging.
6. Optional: sew a jingle bell on the bottom of the icicle.
Add curly ribbon on top of the icicle.

Here’s a sweet and easy 3 button scarf crochet pattern to try.  You can whip these up in no time, as they work quickly with 2 strands of yarn and a large crochet hook,

Make them in any color.  Working in the back of the rows gives a ribbed look.  Easy enough for beginners!

Materials:

9mm Crochet Hook

Worsted Weight Yarn, working with 2 strands.

 

Instructions

  1. Chain 66.
  2. Single crochet in the second stitch from the hook, and in each stitch across the row.
  3. Chain 1 and turn. Working in the back of the stitch, single crochet in each stitch across the row.

REPEAT step 3 for 20 rows.

Choose buttons that will fit between the stitches.

PATTERN:

MATERIALS:

worsted weight yarn

5.5mm crochet hook

(Or any yarn and hook of your choice.)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Chain 20.

2. Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and in each stitch across the row.  Chain 1 and turn.

3. Skip the 1st stitch. Single crochet across the row. Chain 1 and turn.

REPEAT step 3, 2 more times.

4. Slip stitch in the first 4 stitches.  Chain 1.  Single crochet across the row, stopping when there are 4 stitches remaining. Chain 1 and turn.

5. Single crochet in each stitch across the row of single crochet (do not crochet in the 4 final slip stitches.)  Chain 1 and turn.

REPEAT step 5, 6 times for a total of 8 rows of single crochet.  Fasten off.

Your work will now look like this:

6. Attach white yarn where you just finished working. This will form the top cuff of the stocking. Single crochet across the row, making an increase stitch of 2 single crochets in stitches 4 and 8.  (see here for video instructions for this step.)  Chain 1 and turn.

7. Single crochet in each stitch across the row to form the cuff. Chain 1 and turn

REPEAT step 7 two more times.

Fold the stocking in half so the 2 ends of the cuff meet.  Slip stitch to join down the side of the stocking with white.(Video clip)  Fasten off the white.

 

8. Insert your hook in the edge of the first row of red, in the opening below the white.  Single crochet through 2 layers around the edge to close the stocking. (Video clip) Fasten off red.

9. Work in your yarn ends.

10. Turn down the cuff.

MATERIALS:  Worsted weight yarn, 9 mm crochet hook (US M or N), Yarn needle

 

INSTRUCTIONS:  Gauge: 2 stitches long and 2 rows high = 1 sq inch

  1. Working with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn, and a 9 mm crochet hook:

    Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

  1. Chain 1, make: Newborn to 6 months: 7 single crochet in the ring;

                6 to 12 months: 8 single crochet in the ring;

                1 to 3 yrs: 9 single crochet in the ring;

                slip stitch to join.

  1. Chain 1 and turn, make 2 single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (14, 16, 18 stitches)
  2. Repeat step 3. (28, 32, 38 stitches)
  3. *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.

Repeat from * for: Newborn -6 mths:  6 rows;   6 – 12 mths:  8 rows;     1 – 3 yrs: 10 rows.

INSTRUCTIONS:

 

  1. Crochet a foundation chain any length, you can always add more sections if you run out.
  2. Single crochet in the 8th stitch from the hook.  *chain 5, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat

from * all down the length of the foundation chain, fasten off.

  1. Wrap and glue the strip of crochet around a cone shape.
  2. If you need more lengths to cover the cone, simply crochet more, then glue the next strip at the end of the

previous one.

  1. Works bottom up, make 2 identical sections (1 front and 1 back)

Age 2 – 4: Chain 30

Adult Medium – Large: Chain 56

Adult Large – XLarge: Chain 66

 

  1. Double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain.

  1. Repeat step 3 until the desired length is reached.

(Examples: 2-4 yrs: 24 inches; 4-8 yrs: 28 inches;

8-10 yrs: 32 inches; 10-16 yrs:34 inches,

Adult short: 36 inches; adult tall: 40 inches)

  1. Work alternating front and back post double crochet across the row

for the final row, which will form the shoulders and the neckline.

Fasten off.

Stack 2, sew together at the shoulders, leaving an opening large enough to pull on over the head.

Sew buttons on the sides attaching the front and back together.

crochet in each dc stitch, slip stitch into the single crochet stitch in the center of the row, double

crochet in each remaining stitch, fasten off.

 

ARMS:  make 2: chain 6, single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook and each stitch of the chain.

Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch across the row, repeat from * for 5 more rows,

fasten off.  Fold in half, and sew closed to form arms, sew onto the body at the neck.

 

HAIR:  Wrap yarn around a 6 inch piece of cardboard, approx. 60 times, tie into a bundle, slide off the cardboard, and cut open opposite the tied area.  Sew onto the head. Wrap yarn around the neck to hold the hair snugly on the head. Take a few stitches to secure.

 

BIKINI TOP:  Chain 14, single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain, fasten off, tie around the chest.  (Sew in place for young children.)

 

Sew a ribbon at the neck.
